                              • Log in to your portal.
                              • Click ‘Setup’ > ‘Add a New Tracker’ > Select ‘Camera.’
                              • Enter the 11-digit serial number and click ‘Continue.’

How do I install my camera?

Here is a helpful installation video:

How to Install your Linxcam thumbnail

Or, below are the simple written steps to install your new linxCam.

                            1. Park the vehicle on flat ground and turn off the ignition.
                            2. Grab a Phillips screwdriver, cable ties, a small level, and painters or electrical tape.
                            3. Test the placement of the camera to ensure it won’t impede the driver’s view and is clear of the rearview mirror and sun visor.
                            4. The camera mount is extremely secure once in place, so please make sure the alignment is correct before adhering it to the windshield.

                            Installing the Camera

                            1. Install the Mounting Bracket:
                              • The camera must be installed near the centerline of the front windshield and slightly below the rearview mirror. This ensures the driver-facing camera has a full view of the driver from their waist to above their head. If the vehicle does not have a windshield mounted rear-view mirror, mount the camera as high up as possible.

Inside vehicle view of where linxCam should be installed

                            • Before removing the adhesive backing, place the mount on the windshield and use a small level to ensure that the mounting plate is square to the vehicle and not rotated. Mark the position using electrical or painter’s tape. This will provide a guideline for the mount to help ensure it’s level and in the optimal position.
                            • Clean the install area of the windshield using the provided Lens Wipe and allow it to dry. Remove the adhesive backing and secure the mount to the windshield with the toothed side facing left. Do not install the mount with the toothed side facing right (upside-down).

                            1. Install the Camera:
                              • Connect the camera to the mount with the button and indicator lights facing inward toward the driver and tighten the bracket screw.
                              • Swivel the camera to ensure it’s aligned vertically. You may need to adjust the forward/backward position of the camera if too much of the vehicle hood is visible.

                            1. Powering the Camera:
                              • Hide and Secure Wiring and install the Power Box:
                                • Connect the Power Cable to the camera and determine the route the cable will take to the OBDII port or wired power connection point with the vehicle.
                                • Using the Tuck Stick/Lever, route the camera cable above the windshield and down the door jamb. Attach the Power Box using the self-adhesive pad close enough to the OBDII port or wired connection point within the vehicle.
                                • Secure the cables using cable ties and be sure to prevent any slack from hanging into the footwell.
                                • Attach either the OBDII power connector or the wired power connector to the round cable from the power box and then connect to the vehicle.
                                  • For the OBDII connector, use a splitter (Figure A) to connect the camera power cable (Figure B) and the OBDII vehicle tracker. Be sure to tuck/wrap any slack out of the way so as not to interfere with vehicle operation.

For a wired power connection, connect the red wire to a constant power source (not switched), the orange wire to switched ignition, and the black wire to a solid grounding point. The remainder of the wires should be secured to prevent any accidental contact and out of the way of proper vehicle operation.

                            1. Power on the Vehicle:
                              • Upon vehicle Ignition ON, you should see power to both the tracking device and camera. The green “power” light on the left of the camera near the interior lens will illuminate.

How do I pair my camera to a device or change which device it's assigned to?

During activation you will have an opportunity to pair your camera with a specific device. You can also change this pairing and/or unassign cameras on either the Map or Setup pages.

NOTE: Please ensure you save all footage you need before unpairing and repairing the camera. Unpairing the camera erases footage on the camera.

                            What are User Generated Videos?

Users can create custom video clips of 20 seconds in length that are automatically sent to the cloud. These clips include video captured 10 seconds before and 10 seconds after the button is pressed.

For example the driver can press the button, speak the name of the clip (for example, that truck cut me off) and the video will be saved with that phrase as the title to the cloud.

How long are User Generated Video clips?

How many hours of video can I record?

The camera records and holds about 40-160 hours of video on a rolling basis, depending on the SD cards installed. Read more about linxCam SD card upgrades here.

As the camera records more footage, the oldest footage gets overwritten.

NOTE: Ensure to save any video you need as soon as possible to avoid the camera overwriting the footage. If you are concerned about the camera overwriting the footage you need, remove the camera from power until you are ready to download the video.

You can customize the alert sensitivity and frequency under ‘Setup’ > ‘Camera Setup.’ Visit the Camera Settings article to learn more about customizing your camera settings.

                            What is the Tailgating Alert?

The camera uses these settings to essentially draw a “box” in front of the vehicle. The camera then detects objects that it identifies as vehicles and alerts when vehicles are within the “box” for a prolonged period of time (5 seconds).

The linxCam currently has 4 default measurements for settings used to calibrate itself for
Tailgating detection. The 4 settings are as follows:

                            1.  Camera installation height above ground
                              • This is the height of the camera lens above the ground.
                            2. The camera margin
                              • This is the distance from the forward-facing camera lens to the driver's side edge of the vehicle.
                            3. The front-end width (without mirrors) of the vehicle
                              • This is the side-to-side measurement of the vehicle.
                            4. The front-end length
                              • This is the distance from the forward-facing camera lens to the furthest forward point on the vehicle. This includes any bumpers or grill guards that may be mounted forward of the end of the vehicle hood.

Why am I receiving false alerts?

                            Tailgating

                            • linxCam uses 4 default settings to calibrate for tailgating detection. These include the height of the camera lens above the ground; the distance from the camera lens to the driver’s side edge of the vehicle, the front-end width (not including mirrors); and the front-end length (including anything attached such as bumpers and grill guards).
                            • These settings create a “box” in front of the vehicle. The camera alerts you when another vehicle enters this box for more than 5 seconds. The following is an example of a correctly positioned camera view:

                            Tailgating Alert on linxCam

                            • False tailgating alerts can usually be resolved by adjusting the camera position. If your videos show a lot of the dashboard or hood, reposition the camera to capture more sky. Flat-front vehicles can also trigger false alerts. Refer to the linxCam quick install guide for full instructions. The following is an example of a incorrectly positioned camera view:

                            Incorrectly positioned camera view

                            No Seat Belt

                            • False seat belt alerts may occur if the seat belt and the driver’s shirt are similar in color or if something like a bulky jacket obstructs the camera's view of the seat belt.

                            No Driver Detected

                            • This rare false alert typically happens when a vehicle is being towed. Or maybe your vehicle is haunted?

What do I do if I am getting false Tailgating Alerts?

If you believe your Tailgating Alerts are false, please confirm the camera is installed and positioned properly. If the videos are showing a lot of the dashboard or hood of the vehicle, the camera may need to be re-positioned to see more sky.

You can also adjust Tailgating sensitivity and frequency under ‘Setup’ > ‘Camera Setup.’ Visit the Camera Settings article to learn more about customizing your camera settings.

If the issue persists, you can contact Support to manually calibrate your camera. Please provide Support the following 4 measurements to recalibrate your camera:

                            Windshield measurements

NOTE: If your vehicle has a split windshield or center windshield obstruction, contact Support to recalibrate your camera with these 4 measurements.

Are the camera-generated AI Alerts 100% accurate?

No, false positives can happen for various reasons. However, they are highly accurate and help identify risky driving behavior that could lead to costly accidents.
